Cat Behaviourist, Cat Sitter, Animal Communicator, Reiki Master, Author and Intuitive
Many years ago, I was born into a family of cat lovers in the Midlands of England. Ever since then, I have been actively encouraged by my family to pursue my love of felines and develop my sensitive and intuitive nature.
Animals bring out my spiritual side and fill me with joy. I enjoy the company of all animals but there is nothing quite like the deep sense of connection and peace that I feel with cats.
At the tender age of ten years, I began to study cat care, behaviour and physiology in books and magazines. I was hooked and couldn’t assimilate cat behaviour information fast enough.
Sadly, I decided that I should get a ‘proper’ job when I left school so animal behaviour got put on the back burner but I still had many different pets to keep me company over the years.
In March 2011, I took the plunge and left my lacklustre office job to set up my own pet sitting business. Success was immediate and Karma Paws Pet Care is still going strong today.
I started out looking after a myriad of animals including cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, reptiles and even a giant African land snail! I mainly now offer cat sitting services but I still walk some of my calmer canine clients and pet sit for a few feisty chooks.
Working with animals is fulfilling and satisfying and although it can be peppered with difficult emotional moments, I wouldn’t dream of doing anything else.
Inspired by my childhood collection of cat books and magazines, my journey into the formal study of cat behaviour began in 2012 when I studied a feline psychology course with Compass Education and Training.
I also started learning Reiki around this time and by 2015, I was a Reiki Master Teacher and qualified to offer cat behaviour consultations after achieving the Level 5 Advanced Feline Behaviour Management Diploma with Compass Education.
I didn’t stop there though, my intuition truly began to flourish and I discovered that I was able to communicate with animals on a very subtle level, which led me to undertake two formal courses in animal communication.
My first official animal behaviour title came about in 2015 when I completed a canine behaviour qualification, equivalent to my feline course and I became a member of the Association of INTO Dogs and Accredited Animal Behaviourist with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC).
Much to my delight, my qualifications and experience also enabled me to gain membership of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) as an Associate Certified Cat Behavior Consultant.
My collection of titles was fast growing when my membership of the Association of INTO Dogs meant that I could become an ICAN (International Companion Animal Network) Certified Animal Behaviourist!
As you can see, I am the wearer of many hats and although I am aware of the importance of understanding scientific theories when it comes to animal behaviour, I communicate with them and the rest of the world around me intuitively and energetically for the most part.
My intuitive abilities are best described as making me a Highly Sensitive and Intuitive Empath. I have a strong sense of empathy with animals and my calm and caring approach enables me to work closely with animals and their human families to bring them closer on an emotional and energetic level.
In 2016, I wrote my first book, ‘Weird Is Wonderful’ after the sudden and unexpected loss of my father to share everything I knew about animals, healing and intuition with others on a similar path.
Two more books, ‘Power Of The Purr’ and ‘Being Kind To Dogs’ soon followed to ensure that as many people as possible could find out about force-free animal training and behaviour modification to discourage them from using punishments and other harsh methods.
Animals have taught me so much and continue to do so. They bring us so much love, pleasure and laughter but as I’m sure any animal lover knows, they can also bring us heartache when they are unable to spend as much time on this planet as we do.
I may be qualified and experienced in both cat and dog behaviour but understanding cats comes much more naturally to me, which is why I often shorten my official title to 'Cat Behaviourist' to succinctly describe what I do best. I am a true cat-person at heart.
With their beauty, grace and infinite depths of purrs and wisdom, cats bless our lives in so many ways. I shall always be grateful to cats. I always stop to greet cats in the street and have our own cat, Monty to come home to. He chose to move in with us in 2009 and soon got his paws firmly under the table!
My family and I love him so very much and he features heavily on this website, in my books and on social media. So thank you, Monty. You are our feline rock and we will love you, always.
Thank you for visiting my website. I hope you enjoyed it and that you will be in touch soon.
Love and light,
